Character is how you treat those who can do nothing for you.
What this quote meens is that when your giving to another person but they dont give in return. For example when you are walking down Main Ave in Dickson City and you see a homeless man laying down with a sheet over them and they look hungry and you decide to give them $40.00 for food and a sweater for warmth and they give you nothing in return because they have nothing. Your doing a good deed for this man so you should not expect something in return.
